You can select a lead trader to follow via the Market board, Top Picks, or by using the Search trader function to find traders you're interested in.

1. Browse the Market board: Navigate to the [Copy] tab at the bottom of the app. On the [Futures Copy Trading] page, under the Market board, browse through the list of lead traders. Choose a lead trader that interests you and tap the [Copy] button to proceed to the copy trading setup.
 
2. Top Picks: Top Picks highlights lead traders with stable performance, high win rates, and strong risk management. These are hand-picked by the platform and are ideal for beginners looking for reliable strategies.
 
3. Search trader: At the top of the Market board, tap the “Search trader” search bar and enter the full nickname of the lead trader you’re looking for. Once found, tap [Copy] to go to the setup page.

BTCC's copy trading settings currently include four main modules: Copy Mode Selection, Per Trade Settings, Max Copy Amount, and Advanced Settings. Each will be explained below.
 
<h2 id="h_01JVVEQ08MVN8W4AHHFDKF31Z2">1. Copy Mode Selection</h2>
BTCC supports two copy trading modes: Fixed Margin and Proportional Margin. The default mode is Fixed Margin, and users can switch between modes at the top-right corner of the page.
 
<h3 id="h_01JVVK85VR4YPXPM4XFVS8EV0H">Fixed Margin Mode</h3>
In this mode, a fixed margin amount is allocated for each copied position. The per trade margin range is 10–100,000 USDT. The maximum margin range is 10–2,000,000 USDT.
 
Users can set a customized cap for maximum margin. Once that limit is reached, no further trades will be copied.

For example, if a user sets each copied trade to 50 USDT and the maximum copy margin to 200 USDT, every time the trader opens a new position, 50 USDT will be used to follow the trade—until the 200 USDT cap is reached. That means the user can hold a maximum of 4 active copied trades (200 ÷ 50 = 4).
This mode is simple and user-friendly, especially for beginners, and fits most users’ copy trading habits.
 
<h3 id="h_01JVVK8RTA1QWXKZAXYR80JW0Q">Proportional Margin Mode</h3>
This newer mode allows users to copy trades based on a proportion of the trader’s position size.
 
Copied trade value = Trader’s position value × User-defined proportional margin rate
Supported proportional margin rates range from 0.01 to 100, with a maximum total margin limit between 10 and 2,000,000 USDT.
 
For example, if a trader opens a position worth 10,000 USDT and the user sets a proportional margin rate of 0.1, the user’s copied position will be 10,000 × 0.1 = 1,000 USDT.

This mode allows users to copy trades with flexible capital allocation based on the trader’s actual position size, making it easier to follow strategies with precision. The user's overall PnL (profit and loss) will be more closely aligned with the lead trader’s performance.
 
<h2 id="h_01JVVEQ08MG8KJM0SBYA1K9NZM">2. Per Order Copy Settings</h2>
The settings required will vary depending on the selected copy trading mode:

Users must enter a fixed USDT amount for each copied trade.
For example, entering 10 USDT means that 10 USDT will be used for each copied order when the lead trader opens a new position.
 
<h4 id="h_01JVVEQ08MZJCWVXZR7KH01DZB">Proportional Margin Mode</h4>
Users must enter a copy ratio, which determines how much to allocate based on the trader's position size.
For example, if the lead trader opens a 10,000 USDT position and the user sets a 0.1x ratio, the system will allocate 1,000 USDT to the copied trade.

Users can set a maximum total copy margin. Once this limit is reached, no additional trades will be copied.
 
<h4 id="h_01JVVEQ08MAR3MP3N1ZPFPA4C3">In Fixed Margin Mode</h4>
The number of simultaneous copied trades = Maximum Copy Amount ÷ Per Trade Copy Amount
For example, if the per order amount is 10 USDT and the maximum is 1,000 USDT, the user can hold up to 100 active copied trades.
 
<h4 id="h_01JVVEQ08M28WQTDTRST76J00W">In Proportional Margin Mode</h4>
Since trade sizes vary depending on the trader's positions and your set ratio, the above formula does not apply.
 
<h2 id="h_01JVVEQ08MJPN366M089398WF2">4. Copy Ongoing Positions</h2>
When enabled, the system will immediately copy any ongoing positions the lead trader currently holds, using the market price. This setting is enabled by default.
 
If the system detects a price deviation between the user’s opening price and the lead trader’s buying price of over 3%, the copy order will fail automatically for user protection.
 
<h2 id="h_01JVVEQ08MDJQNAJ8S3HWM8HV3">5. Advanced Settings</h2>
Advanced settings include: Copy trading contract settings, Auto Update, Copy trade stop loss for trader, Take profit per order, and Stop loss per order. These options can be customized based on user preferences.

Select the trading pair(s) from your chosen lead trader(s). It is recommended to match the lead trader’s settings.
The default position mode is Cross Margin, and the leverage will follow the lead trader’s settings.
 
<h3 id="h_01JVVKAK86BJW5FA1VHR263B4D">Auto Update</h3>
When enabled, any new trading pairs added by the lead trader will be automatically synced and copied on your end. This feature is enabled by default.
 
<h3 id="h_01JVVKB6ZM83AWB413PHJP86AD">Copy trade stop loss for trader</h3>
A risk control feature that allows users to set the maximum acceptable net loss. Once the net loss reaches the specified limit, the system will stop copying the trader and process the remaining positions based on your settings.
Net loss = Total copy trade profit – Total copy trade loss (including floating PnL)

Automatically places a take-profit order for each copied trade based on the parameters of the lead trader. If not enabled, users will need to monitor positions and close them manually.

Automatically places a stop-loss order for each copied trade based on the parameters of the lead trader.

On the BTCC app, go to [My Copy Trades] &gt; [My Traders], select the trader you want to stop copying, open the [Copy Management] page, tap the settings icon in the top-right corner, and confirm to stop copy lead trader to end the copy trading relationship.

This article outlines the guidelines designed for lead traders on BTCC. By adhering to these guidelines, lead traders can enjoy special benefits, such as increased exposure and traffic, a higher copy trader limit, and higher priority to take part in official promotional activities. Lead traders who don’t meet our standards may have their traffic limited or have their lead trader position revoked. As we develop our copy trading feature, we’ll continue to adjust and update these guidelines.

 What qualities do we encourage in our lead traders?</h1>
 
1. Experience: Lead traders who’ve led trades on BTCC for a long time under different market conditions and brought profit to their copy traders.
 
2. Authenticity: Lead traders who use large amounts of their actual funds in their lead trades and take on the same risk as the traders copying them.
 
3. Good Risk Management: Lead traders who have a clear strategy for risk control and stopping losses. They take responsibility for users, have a low max drawdown, set a reasonable stop loss, and try to ensure a positive PnL for copy traders.
 
4. Trustworthiness: Lead traders whose copy traders trust and are willing to copy them on BTCC. They can bring new traders to the platform.
 
 
<h1 id="h_01J3KZQ82YG2Z60GXHE5312TF2">What behavior do we discourage in our lead traders?</h1>
 
1. Lead traders who falsify account data or create many different lead trade accounts. 2. Lead traders who hedge transactions to influence data while making sure they don’t make a loss. 3. Lead traders who hold onto unprofitable trades and don’t set stop losses, resulting in copy traders making losses and having their positions liquidated. 4. Lead traders who open trades with low funds, make random or extreme trades, don’t take responsibility for their copy traders, and change accounts if their account data becomes poor. 5. Lead traders who imitate other lead traders’ nickname or profile picture. 6. Lead traders who direct traffic to external platforms or promote their social media accounts.
 Promoted traders will gain increased visibility, campaign support, and promotion of their profiles. However, traders who exhibit undesirable behavior may face traffic restrictions or, in severe cases, have their lead trader status revoked.

Based on the criteria above, we’ve adjusted the placement of traders within the Market board. Lead traders who meet the criteria will be prioritized at the top of the Market board.

Lead Trader Behavior Playbook

At BTCC Exchange, we prioritise delivering an optimal investment experience through our copy trading feature. However, due to the intricate nature of copy trading, users may sometimes encounter order registration failures. This article will try to outline the key reasons for potential copy trade order failures.
 
1. Insufficient Assets:
Failure to open a copy trade can occur if your account lacks sufficient USDT. For instance, if opening a trade requires a 20 USDT margin but your account holds less than 20 USDT, the trade won't open. Ensure your account has enough USDT (≥ required margin) for successful trading. Remember, after adding funds to meet the margin requirement, you must manually re-initiate the copy trade as the system won't automatically do it.
 
2. Order is Below Minimum Single Copy Trade Amount:
BTCC sets a minimum amount for opening positions, and orders below this threshold may not be registered. This minimum amount varies across different perpetual contracts. 
It's important to differentiate between a user's amount per trade and the maximum copy trading margin per trade set in their settings. For users following with a fixed margin, their amount per order equals the set maximum amount per order multiplied by the leverage ratio. In the case of proportional margin followers, their amount per order is calculated as the lead trader’s margin per order multiplied by the copy trader's set multiplier. 
Specifically, for fixed margin users, if the BTC-USDT perpetual contract's current minimum trade amount is 300 USDT and the lead trader uses a 3x BTC leverage, the copy trader needs to invest at least 100 USDT (300/3) for each copy trade. Therefore, the copy trader should set their copy trading margin per trade at ≥100 USDT in their settings. Setting it below 100 USDT will prevent them from copying the BTC-USDT perpetual contract. It is advisable to increase the copy trading margin per trade to ensure the set amount multiplied by the contract leverage ratio is always ≥ the minimum required for a single order. 
For those using a proportional margin, if the minimum trade amount for the BTC-USDT perpetual contract is 300 USDT and the lead trader places an order valued at 600 USDT, the copy trader’s proportional copy trade margin per order must be at least 0.5x (300/600). Setting this margin below 0.5x will inhibit the ability to copy the trade and open a BTC-USDT perpetual contract. Thus, it is recommended to increase the proportional copy trade margin per order to ensure that the value of the lead trader's opening order multiplied by the user’s proportional copy trade margin per order is ≥ the minimum amount required for a single order. 
*Note: The minimum amount may vary with market conditions. Always refer to the current limits listed on each perpetual contract.
 
3. Exceeding Your Set Maximum Copy Trade Amount:
When setting your parameters for copy trading, you may have established a maximum copy trading margin. This limit caps the total margin you can allocate to copying a lead trader. Should your cumulative margin investment in a lead trader surpass this threshold, the system will stop copying new trades from them. To prevent this, you can adjust your maximum copy trading margin in the settings. It's important to note that this calculation of exceeding your maximum copy trading margin includes all prior margin investments made in copying this lead trader. For continuous and successful order openings, consider increasing your maximum copy trading margin.

Why Did My Copy Trade Order Fail?

1. What are the profit-sharing rules for BTCC copy trading?
 Between 10% and 15% of the copy trader’s profits are paid to the lead trader as commission. The specific percentage depends on the lead trader's designated profit-sharing ratio.
 
Example: If lead trader A has a profit-sharing percentage of 10%, and a copied trade generates a profit of 100 USDT, then the lead trader will receive 10% of 100 USDT, which amounts to 10 USDT.
 
Detailed Rules:
<ul>
<li>The system tallies the profit and loss (PnL) of each copied order within the settlement period. Commission is deducted from each profitable trade immediately. At the time of settlement, if the total commission deducted from the copy trader’s account exceeds the actual commission due to the lead trader, the excess will be refunded to the copy trader, and the lead trader's account will be credited with the actual commission amount. 
</li>
<li>Profit distribution occurs only when there are no open positions linked between the copy trader and the lead trader, meaning all copy trading orders must be closed. If the copy trader’s portfolio still includes open positions copied from the lead trader, the profit distribution will be deferred until all positions are closed. 
</li>
<li>The BTCC copy trading settlement cycle operates on a natural day basis (daily settlement), with the profit and loss calculation spanning from 16:00 (UTC) to 15:59:59 (UTC) each day. The settlement process begins at 16:00 (UTC).</li>
</ul>
 Example:

<li>Total Pre-Deducted Profit-Sharing Amount: 20 + 30 + 50 + 10 = 110 USDT</li>

<li>Refund to Copy Trader: 110 - 55 = 55 USDT</li>
</ul>
 
At settlement, the system calculates the copy trader’s total PnL of 550 USDT for the period. The lead trader is entitled to 55 USDT (10% of 550 USDT). Since 110 USDT was initially deducted as prepaid commission, 55 USDT will be transferred to the lead trader's account, and the remaining 55 USDT will be refunded to the copy trader's account.
 
Note: Settlement will be deferred to the next cycle if the copy trader has any open positions linked to the lead trader at the time of settlement.
 
2. How many levels are there in the lead trader's profit-sharing hierarchy?
 BTCC has 4 levels of profit-sharing for lead traders, determined by the lead trader's average copy trading volume over the last 30 days:

3. When are the profits for copy trading and lead trading settled?
 Profits from copy trading are distributed as soon as the copied position is closed, with a portion of the earnings allocated to the lead trader based on their specified profit-sharing ratio.
 
The commission earned from lead trading is settled daily at 16:00 (UTC).
 
4. How many followers can each lead trader have?
 Up to 500.
 
5. What is the maximum number of lead traders a copy trader can follow? Is there a limit to the number of orders that can be copied simultaneously?
 A copy trader can follow a maximum of 10 lead traders, with no restriction on the number of trading orders that can be copied concurrently.
 
6. What criteria must be met to qualify as a lead trader?
 To be eligible to apply as a lead trader at BTCC, users must fulfill the following requirements:

<li>The user is not currently following any other lead traders and does not have any open positions resulting from copy trades.</li>
<li>The user has successfully completed identity verification. For users in Korea, both identity verification and facial verification are mandatory.</li>
</ul>
 7. What additional setup is required for a lead trader after their application has been approved?
 Once approved, lead traders need to:
 
<ul>
<li>Fill out their lead trader profile and select their desired trading contracts for leading.</li>
<li>Maintain a minimum balance of 200 USDT when opening positions. While lead traders with balances below 200 USDT can still open positions for themselves, they will not be eligible to lead trades.</li>
</ul>
 8. What modes are available for BTCC's copy trading feature?
 BTCC's copy trading feature offers two distinct modes:

 9. Are the copy/lead trading orders separate from the user's own trading orders?
 Yes. Copied/leading trades are shown on a separate list under the user’s futures page.
 
10. Is it possible for a lead trader to modify their position mode while leading trades?
 Yes, a lead trader has the flexibility to switch between different position modes at any time, regardless of whether they are currently engaged in leading trades.
 
11. Which trading pairs are supported in the copy trading feature?

 Copy traders have the autonomy to adjust the following settings for their copy trading orders:
 
• Modify: Users can alter their investment amount per order and their maximum copy trading amount after initiating a trade. Any changes will be applied the next time the lead trader opens a new position. ​Fixed Amount: Users can set a specific amount for each trade, with the allowable range being from 10 to 100,000 USDT.
 • ​Position Ratio: Users can determine the ratio of their trade size relative to the lead trader’s position, with the allowable range being from 0.01x to 10x.
 ​​• Maximum Investment Amount (USDT): Users can set a cap on their total investment for copy trading, ranging from 10 to 200,000 USDT. Once this limit is reached, copy trading will be temporarily halted, and no additional funds will be allocated to copy new positions from the lead trader. However, any existing linked positions will remain active. New positions will only be suspended temporarily.
 ​​• Copy Trading Stop Loss: Users can set a stop loss for their copy trading activities, with the allowable range being from 1 to 100,000. Users also have the option to determine the action to be taken with their copied positions once the stop loss is triggered. Available actions include: Market-close-all, Copy-close-orders, and Manual. The default setting for all users is Market-close-all. When the copy trading stop loss is activated, existing positions will be managed accordingly, the user will be automatically unlinked from the lead trader, and copy trading will cease.
 ​​• Single Take Profit: Users can set a Take Profit Rate for individual trades, with the allowable range being from 0% to 150%.
 ​​• Single Stop Loss: Users can set a Stop Loss for individual trades, with the allowable range being from 0% to 75%.
 
13. Are there any leverage restrictions for positions taken by a lead trader?
Lead traders face no constraints on the leverage they can apply to their positions.
 
14. Are there any geographic restrictions on accessing BTCC's copy trading features?In which regions is copy trading unavailable?
 BTCC's copy trading services are accessible globally, with exceptions in certain countries due to regulatory constraints or service limitations. These countries include Zimbabwe, Jordan, Iran, Somalia, the Cayman Islands, Iraq, North Korea, Afghanistan, Bermuda, Haiti, Cuba, Syria, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Mainland China.

Every time a trader opens a position, the system calculates the follower’s order amount according to the trader’s margin-to-equity ratio and replicates the trader’s order parameters. Example:If a trader has $10,000 USDT in account equity and opens a 5x leverage long position on BTCUSDT Perpetual using $1,000 USDT (10% of equity), then when you follow with a $1,000 USDT investment, the system will automatically allocate $1,000 × 10% = $100 USDT as your copy trade position margin, using 5x leverage to go long BTCUSDT Perpetual. With BTCC Smart Copy Trading, you only need to set your investment amount—no need to configure complex parameters. When a trader initiates a futures trade, the system will automatically place the same trade for the follower. This feature is particularly suitable for users who are new to futures trading or do not have sufficient time to perform market analysis. Through Copy Trading, both followers and top traders can benefit:Followers replicate the strategies of traders they follow, while top traders — as experienced investors — can share their strategies, attract more followers, and earn a share of the profits generated by their followers. Users can switch between modes as needed. <h2 id="h_01K9E2MGYT8AJ1CZ1SMWKMBH23">Smart Ratio Mode</h2>Set copy parameters:• Investment Amount (required): Total capital allocated to follow the trader (minimum 100 USDT), which will be isolated in your trading account.• Copy Stop Loss: Maximum loss amount acceptable for following the current trader. Once the loss reaches this threshold, a market stop-loss order will be triggered to close all positions.• Immediately Copy Existing Positions: When enabled, if the trader currently holds any positions, the system will immediately place a proportional market order to replicate the position. If disabled, the system will wait for the trader’s next order to initiate copying.Once you confirm all details, click Confirm at the bottom to successfully copy the trader. <h2 id="h_01K9E2MGYZJKD1C75J205Z5G37">Fixed Margin Mode</h2>Followers invest a fixed margin amount for each copied position. The allowed range is from 10 to 20,000 USDT per trade, and 100 to 200,000 USDT for total copy capital. Followers can set a personal maximum copy amount, after which no new trades will be copied.Example: If you set 50 USDT per trade and a total copy amount of 200 USDT, the system will copy each trader's position using 50 USDT until the 200 USDT cap is reached. You can hold a maximum of 200/50 = 4 active copy trades simultaneously.• Copy Stop Loss: Same as in Smart Ratio mode — triggers position closure upon reaching the set loss amount.• Immediately Copy Existing Positions: Same as above — toggles whether to instantly replicate open trader positions or wait for the next trade.  <h1 id="h_01K9E2MGZ4C8N33GXJ758RMS8H">III. View Copy Details &amp; Adjust Settings</h1> From the copy trading homepage, go to My Copy Trades. Under Copy Management, you can view your ongoing and completed copy trades, including profit details.To modify a specific copy relationship, locate the trader under Active Copy Trades and tap to view Copy Details. Here, you can monitor earnings, investment changes, current and past positions.From this page, you can also adjust your investment amount, change settings, or end the copy trade.  <h2 id="h_01K9E2MGZ9CHDMC9WN6WNFQT8V">IV. Advanced Settings (Optional)</h2> Advanced settings include four parameters: Margin Mode, Leverage, Take Profit, and Stop Loss. Details below:• Margin Mode: Choose from “Follow Trader’s Margin Mode”, “Cross Margin”, or “Isolated Margin”.• Leverage: Choose between “Follow Trader’s Leverage” and “Fixed Leverage”.• Position Take Profit: Set a take-profit ratio for each copied position. If enabled, a limit-close order will be automatically placed with each copy. If not set, your positions will follow the trader’s closures.• Position Stop Loss: Set a maximum loss amount and a strategy for handling remaining positions when the limit is reached. Once net loss reaches this value, copy relationship is terminated, and the remaining positions are handled based on your chosen method.
