Sun Pharma Plunges to 52-Week Low as Pharma Titans Brace for US Tariff Storm

Pharma stocks take a beating as trade tensions escalate.
The Tariff Threat Looms
American trade policy sends shockwaves through global pharmaceutical supply chains. Sun Pharma leads the decline—hitting its lowest point in a year as investors dump healthcare stocks. Other industry giants scramble to reassess their US exposure.
Market Reactions
Portfolio managers rotate out of vulnerable sectors while tariff calculations dominate earnings calls. The industry's legendary pricing power suddenly looks fragile against geopolitical forces. Typical hedge fund response—sell first, read the trade policy fine print later.
Long-term Implications
Supply chain realignments could take quarters. Some companies might absorb the hits; others will pass costs to consumers. Because nothing says 'affordable healthcare' like adding a geopolitical risk surcharge. The only certainty? Volatility's here to stay.

US pharma tariffs to have no impact on Indian generic drug exports: Experts
Market expert Ankit Patel from Arunasset Investment Services offered a measured perspective on the tariff impact. “The 100 per cent tariff on branded and patented drugs is basically a protectionist shot at multinational firms shipping high-value medicines into the US,” Patel explained. He emphasised that around 85-90 per cent of India’s pharma exports to the US are generics, which remain outside the direct firing line.
Patel highlighted that both SUN Pharma and Cipla have existing manufacturing facilities in the U.S., providing them some protection under the exemption clause. “A few Indian majors like Sun, Cipla, Dr. Reddy’s and Lupin already run facilities in New Jersey, New York or Louisiana, which gives them some cover,” he noted.
The analyst concluded that the tariff pressure WOULD primarily impact Big Pharma rather than Indian generic manufacturers, though specialty product segments could face challenges.
