Rideshare giant Lyft just swerved away from traditional mapping providers—teaming up with blockchain-based Bee Maps to crowdsource driver navigation data. The move could slash costs while giving drivers more control over their routes (and data).
Why it matters: Decentralized mapping cuts out the middleman—no more paying Silicon Valley giants for stale map updates. Bee’s system rewards drivers directly for contributing real-time road intel.
The cynical take: Another ’web3 solution’ for a problem that mostly exists because venture capitalists needed something to hype after NFT trading volumes cratered. But hey—if it shaves 10% off Lyft’s AWS bill, Wall Street will call it genius.
