NAIROBI, March 19, 2026 – Kenya has unveiled a comprehensive draft regulatory framework for Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs), marking a pivotal step toward formalizing its burgeoning cryptocurrency sector. The proposed rules mandate strict licensing, impose reserve requirements for stablecoin issuers, and enforce enhanced disclosure standards, with a public consultation period closing on April 10. This regulatory push aims to inject critical transparency, security, and institutional structure into the East African digital finance hub.

According to Kenya VASP Regulations apply to virtual asset service providers, including currency interchange, wallet providers, or stablecoin commissioners. This firm needs to follow all the legal guidelines to work in the country.
