Crypto Market Movers: STO Surges 300%, DRIFT Crashes After Exploit, TAO Remains Active

Against a backdrop of geopolitical tension and macro uncertainty, the crypto market continues to show elevated volatility. On April 2, the broader market remained under pressure, with Bitcoin falling below $67,000 and declining 2.3% on the day to $66,500, while Ethereum dropped 1.5% to $2,070. As momentum in major coins continues to fade, capital has started rotating into localized breakout opportunities, and the altcoin market is showing increasingly sharp divergence.

STO jumps more than 3x in a single day, becoming the strongest short-term momentum play

STO has emerged as one of the strongest gainers in the market, rallying sharply from lower levels on rising volume. According to BTCC spot market data, STO surged to 0.977 USDT, with intraday gains at one point exceeding 350%. From a technical perspective, short-term moving averages are clearly fanning upward, indicating strong bullish participation and highly elevated near-term momentum.

StakeStone has recently staged a powerful rebound alongside a sharp rise in trading volume. The move appears to be driven by a combination of large capital flows, short covering, the rollout of zero-fee QR-code crypto payments in Asia, a dedicated STO campaign by Korean exchanges, and rising expectations tied to the Ethereum ecosystem.

For traders, STO has already entered a high-volatility zone. The opportunity lies in trend continuation, but the risk of chasing at elevated levels has also increased significantly. It is better suited to fast-paced short-term trading than blind momentum chasing near the top.

DRIFT plunges 40% after hack

On April 1, Drift Protocol suffered a major hack, with about $285 million in crypto assets stolen, nearly half of its total value locked. The incident has become one of the most closely watched DeFi security events in the Solana ecosystem in recent years.

From the chart, DRIFT collapsed after a period of sideways trading at high levels, falling more than 40% in a short time and dropping to around $0.041. The moving average structure has turned sharply lower, suggesting that selling pressure has not yet been fully exhausted.

Trading opportunities in this type of token mainly come from trend continuation following a negative event shock. However, after such a steep move down, oversold rebounds are also possible, so the setup is better suited to event-driven short-term trading with quick entry and exit.

TAO remains actively traded

Bittensor (TAO) surged more than 120% at one point in March and climbed to a yearly high of $371. Although the price has since pulled back, it is still holding above $300. Market interest in TAO continues to center on the strengthening narrative around decentralized AI infrastructure. Its 24-hour trading volume is up about 58%, showing that participation remains high.

Structurally, the $340 area remains the key short-term resistance level. If price can break above it on stronger volume, TAO may continue moving toward the $400 zone. On the downside, a loss of the $300 level could open the door to a deeper correction. For traders, TAO currently looks more like a second-entry opportunity within a leading thematic trend after a pullback.

In addition, EDGE is rising against the trend by more than 5%

EDGE is also a new trading target worth watching. BTCC launched EDGE futures trading this week, with the token currently trading at around $0.7156. At the same time, OKX is preparing to launch EDGE perpetual futures, which could further boost short-term trading interest.

According to reports, decentralized derivatives exchange edgeX announced today that it will lock up 140 million EDGE tokens for one year, equivalent to 14% of total supply, in response to community criticism over allegedly unfair airdrop distribution.

Risk Warning: The altcoin market remains broadly weak and is not seeing a broad-based rally. What is happening instead is sharp divergence under high-volatility conditions. For traders, the key at this stage is not to turn broadly bullish on altcoins, but to follow capital rotation and identify the names that are genuinely attracting concentrated liquidity and trading activity.
