Pharma Stocks Bleed: Sensex Plunges 300 Points as Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy’s, Cippa Lead 3% Sector Crash

Indian markets got a bitter pill to swallow today as pharma stocks dragged the Sensex down 300 points—proving even healthcare sectors need resuscitation sometimes.

The Nifty Pharma index nosedived 3%, with giants Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, and Cipla leading the bloodbath. Traders scrambled as prescriptions for profits turned into diagnoses of losses.

Top gainers & losers today
Shares of Eicher Motors, Trent, Asian Paints, HUL and ITC lead the gainers of Nifty 50, while SUN Pharma, Dr Reddy’s Lab, Cipla, Tata Steel and ONGC traded as major laggards.
Nearly 1,720 stocks declined and 1,091 stocks advanced of all the 2,911 stocks that were traded on the National Stock Exchange. 49 stocks such as ABDL, Bosch, Datamatics and Maharashtra Scooters traded at a 52-week high. TCS and Ease My Trip were among the 33 stocks that hit a 52-week low.
Zen Tech and Orchid Pharma featured among 71 stocks that hit the upper circuit, while 42 shares such as V2 Retail hit the lower circuit.
Hester Biosciences, Netweb Technologies, KIOCL and Nelcast rallied 10-16 per cent. On the flip side, Reliance Power, Reliance Infra, Prudent, Omax Auto, Niva Bupa slumped 5-7 per cent
ITC, Adani Power, Tata Power, Godrej Properties, UPL, Delhivery, MCX Q1 results today
Midcap & smallcap movers
Under the midcap segment, Suzlon Energy, Waaree Energies soared 4-7 per cent, Marico and Cummins ROSE over 1 per cent. Aurobindo Pharma, Alkem, Page Industries, Glenmark and Tata Communications depreciated 3-5 per cent.
Radico Khaitan, Zen Tech, Kaynes, Kfin Tech and Birlasoft gained 2-5 per cent under the smallcap stocks, while IIFL, RPower, Sonata, IGIL and Nuvama fell by 4-7 per cent.
On the BSE, KIOCL, Skipper, Netweb, Network 18 and Indegene soared 7-12 per cent, while PNB Housing, IIFL, Strides Pharma dragged 6-17 per cent.
