Tomahawk Ultra Launch Pushes Network Performance Boundaries

Broadcom introduced Tomahawk Ultra, a high-speed Ethernet switch tailored to support large-scale AI and high-performance computing systems. It achieves 250 ns latency at 51.2 Tbps throughput, maintaining high-speed data FLOW without packet loss. This product is built for efficiency and performance in synchronized computing environments.

The switch supports 77 billion packets per second, ensuring consistent line-rate performance across intensive applications. It also reduces Ethernet header overhead to just 10 bytes without compromising compliance. This enables higher network efficiency and supports custom optimizations across diverse workloads.

Tomahawk Ultra uses Link LAYER Retry and Credit-Based Flow Control for lossless data transmission. These technologies eliminate buffer overflow and ensure link reliability. Together, they enable real-time communication critical for training and inference at scale.

Built for Scalable AI and HPC Infrastructure

The Tomahawk Ultra accelerates in-network operations to address the needs of highly synchronized computing clusters. It handles collective functions like AllReduce and AllGather within the switch, reducing compute resource load. As a result, AI training clusters can complete jobs faster and use hardware more effectively.

The switch offers topology-aware routing to support advanced architectures like Mesh, Torus, and Dragonfly. While Tomahawk 6 focuses on scale-out workloads, Tomahawk Ultra targets scale-up compute. Together, they provide an end-to-end solution for both AI and traditional HPC.

The new switch is also fully compatible with Tomahawk 5, enabling rapid deployment in current systems. This pin compatibility reduces time to market for OEMs and system integrators. Broadcom confirmed that the product is already shipping to select partners and data center operators.
