CZ Drops Bombshell Fix for Google, Apple, Meta’s 16B Password Crisis—Crypto to the Rescue?
Tech giants are bleeding passwords—16 billion credentials exposed—and Binance’s CZ just threw them a blockchain-shaped lifeline. Forget 'password123'; the future might run on zero-trust protocols.
The Leak Heard ‘Round the Web
Google, Apple, and Meta’s latest security flub makes Mt. Gox look tidy. But while Big Tech scrambles, CZ’s solution flips the script: decentralized auth, encrypted keys, and a middle finger to centralized data hoarding.
Crypto’s Unlikely Play
Imagine a world where your login isn’t stored in some Silicon Valley server farm. CZ’s proposal leans into crypto’s core strength—ownership. No more 'forgot password?' emails, just self-custodied keys. (Bonus: banks would charge $9.99/month for this.)
The Punchline
If Web2’s security model was a vault, it’s now a screen door. CZ’s fix? Burn the vault. Whether Big Tech listens—or keeps pretending hacks are 'isolated incidents'—is the real test.

The leaked credentials also include logins to tools like GitHub, Telegram, VPNs, and developer portals, which could lead to even bigger cyberattacks on companies.
Security expert Darren Guccione, CEO of Keeper Security, said this shows how poor cloud security still is. “This could be just the tip of the biggest security iceberg,” he warned.
Researchers say the data was likely taken using infostealer malware and not from public leaks. The breach affects people and companies worldwide. Everyone is advised to change their passwords, avoid reusing them, and turn on two-factor authentication.
