Sei Dumps Cosmos—Ethereum or Bust in High-Stakes Blockchain Bet

Another day, another blockchain pivot—this time it’s Sei throwing Cosmos overboard to chase Ethereum’s liquidity tsunami. Because nothing says ’long-term vision’ like rewriting your core architecture mid-bull run.

The move reeks of desperation or genius, depending on which bagholder you ask. Cosmos’ interoperability was yesterday’s buzzword; today it’s all about riding ETH’s coattails straight to the institutional money firehose.

Watch the VC-backed chain rebrand this as ’strategic realignment’ when the real strategy is obvious: follow the gas fees. After all, why build sustainable ecosystems when you can chase speculative capital like everyone else?

New Sei users are now predominantly choosing to use the EVM instead of CosmWasm, data compiled by Sei Labs on data platform Dune Analytics shows.

What’s more, the current cross-compatibility comes at a cost, Su said. It introduces “unnecessary overhead in the codebase and complicates debugging and testing,” he said.

Still, there’s no guarantee others in the Sei community will feel the same way.

Build with Sei, a group managed by the nonprofit Sei Foundation, will host a call on May 14 to discuss the proposal in detail and give opportunities for developers and the community to ask questions and give feedback.
