1. South Korea’s KOSPI Reclaims 7,000 for First Time in 15 Trading Sessions

The KOSPI opened 50.40 points higher at 7,045.79, up 0.72%, reclaiming the 7,000 level for the first time since August 18. Strength from the previous session’s semiconductor rally continued, although foreign investors began taking modest profits in early trading. Markets are watching whether 7,000 can turn into effective support.

 

2. Yen Strengthens to Around 153.53, Highest in Seven Months

The dollar fell as low as around 153.53 yen, pushing the Japanese currency to a seven-month high and leaving it nearly 4% stronger than the roughly 160 level seen early last week. Expectations for further Bank of Japan tightening, unwinding of carry trades and capital returning to Japan have all contributed to the yen’s rapid appreciation.

 

3. Japan Q2 GDP Revised Up to 1.4% Annualized Growth

Japan’s real second-quarter GDP growth was revised up to an annualized 1.4% from the initial 1.1%, while quarter-on-quarter growth was raised to 0.4% from 0.3%. Business capital spending fell 0.9%, better than the initial 1.2% decline, while external demand contributed 0.5 percentage points to quarterly GDP growth.

 

4. Goldman Sachs Raises Brent and WTI Forecasts by $5 Each

As shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz persist, Goldman Sachs raised its end-2026 Brent and WTI forecasts by $5 to $85 and $80 per barrel, respectively. It also lifted its 2027 forecasts to $80 for Brent and $75 for WTI. ANZ expects constrained Persian Gulf supply conditions could persist through the end of 2026.

 

5. Bitcoin Pulls Back Toward $79,000

CoinMarketCap data showed Bitcoin trading around $79,318, slipping back below $80,000. ETH traded near $2,498 and SOL around $104. Total crypto market capitalization stood at roughly $2.70 trillion, while Bitcoin dominance was around 59%, with the broader market continuing to consolidate at elevated levels.

 

6. Total Crypto Market Cap Near $2.70 Trillion as Fear & Greed Index Falls to 73

CoinMarketCap data showed 24-hour crypto trading volume at around $72.4 billion, with Bitcoin dominance near 59.0% and Ethereum at about 11.3%. The Fear & Greed Index fell to 73, continuing to retreat from previous “Extreme Greed” levels, although sentiment remains in “Greed” territory.

 

7. Bitcoin ETFs See $987 Million Weekly Net Inflows, Extending Streak to Three Weeks

For the week ended September 4, US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded combined net inflows of $986.9 million, above the previous week’s $924.5 million. BlackRock’s IBIT contributed approximately $691.5 million, while total weekly trading volume reached around $14.5 billion.

 

8. Ethereum ETFs Attract $218 Million, Also Marking Third Straight Week of Net Inflows

US spot Ethereum ETFs recorded approximately $218.4 million in combined net inflows last week, marking a third consecutive positive week. Weekly trading volume was around $4.1 billion. ETH ETFs attracted roughly $1.85 billion in August, their strongest month since August 2025.

 

9. Ethereum’s Hegotá Upgrade to Add Frame Transactions

Ethereum developers have included EIP-8141 Frame Transactions in the Hegotá upgrade planned for 2027. The feature allows applications or other accounts to pay ETH gas fees on behalf of users, enabling on-chain transactions even when users do not hold ETH themselves.

 

10. Ethereum Sets Goal for Full L1 Quantum Resistance by End-2029

The Ethereum Foundation’s latest Hegotá roadmap review evaluated 62 EIPs, with Frame Transactions among the highlighted priorities. The Foundation also proposed a goal of making three core areas of Ethereum L1 quantum-resistant by December 2029, although the effort remains part of a long-term protocol roadmap.

 

11. Solana Plans to Raise Maximum Transaction Size from 1,232 Bytes to 4,096 Bytes

Solana plans to activate Transaction v1 on September 9, increasing the maximum transaction size by more than threefold to 4,096 bytes. Complex cryptographic proofs, large multisignature transactions and certain privacy transactions will be able to fit into a single transaction, while existing transaction formats will remain compatible.

 

12. DBS and Citi Complete First Cross-Weekend Tokenized US Dollar Deposit Payment

DBS and Citigroup announced the completion of a weekend US dollar payment from Singapore to the United States using tokenized bank deposits settled through Swift Digital Ledger. It is the second confirmed real-world use case for Swift’s blockchain ledger, focusing on validating traditional bank settlement outside normal business hours.

 

13. Hanwha Investment & Securities Completes Avalanche-Based Security Token Platform

South Korea’s Hanwha Investment & Securities has reportedly completed a security-token platform capable of operating on networks including Avalanche and Hyperledger Besu. Amendments related to security tokens in South Korea will take effect in February 2027, allowing distributed ledgers to formally serve as securities registration systems.

 

14. France’s Capital B Buys 376 BTC for $29.4 Million

French Bitcoin treasury company Capital B announced the purchase of 376 BTC for €25.3 million, or approximately $29.4 million, its largest single acquisition in a year. The purchase lifted its total holdings to 3,521 BTC, with cumulative investment reaching around $359 million.

 

15. Aave V4 Launches Dedicated Market for Ethena

Aave V4 launched a dedicated market for Ethena assets on Ethereum and began offering incentives for USDe-related liquidity. The market supports USDe, sUSDe and related asset combinations and forms part of Aave’s broader move toward isolated risk management for stablecoins and yield-bearing assets.
