After President Trump launched his own token, the son of former President Joe Biden is now getting into the act...
On the evening of Sept. 7, The Wall Street Journal reported that Hunter Biden, son of former President Joe Biden, plans to launch the meme coin LAPTOP on the Base chain on Sept. 9. An official X account for LAPTOP, Laptop, has already appeared. The account was created in June of this year and had not posted any content as of press time, but its bio already lists the meme coin's contract address and official website.

Subsequently, Hunter Biden also posted on X with the "$LAPTOP" tag and the date 9.9, along with a 32-second promotional video, and followed the Laptop account. With dual confirmation from a major US media outlet and Hunter Biden himself (assuming his account was not hacked), it is essentially certain that the son of former President Biden is about to launch a token. However, LAPTOP is not yet tradable, and many tokens with the same name have already appeared on-chain, so investors need to be careful to distinguish the real one.
Where Does the LAPTOP Meme Come From?
According to the official website, the LAPTOP meme coin is inspired by Hunter Biden's "laptop scandal" from six years ago. That scandal also dragged then-Vice President Joe Biden into a massive political storm.
In April 2019, Hunter Biden brought a water-damaged MacBook Pro to a computer repair shop in Wilmington, Delaware. The shop owner copied the contents of Hunter Biden's hard drive and later handed the copy to the Trump team. Three weeks before the November 2020 election, the New York Post published a report claiming the computer contained emails about Hunter Biden's overseas business dealings (including with Ukrainian gas company Burisma and transactions related to China), as well as private content such as drug use and nude photos. The media implied that Joe Biden may have been involved in influence peddling.
Although it was never proven that Joe Biden directly broke the law, the incident remains ironclad evidence of Hunter Biden's chaotic personal life and his use of the family name for profit—a scandal he cannot wash away. But now, Hunter Biden is proving that "what doesn't kill me makes me stronger."
This time, Hunter Biden has chosen to theme his token around this "most famous laptop in history," turning the material that the Trump team repeatedly used to attack him into a token. This is both a clear provocation to the Trump family and a move to monetize and meme-ify the controversy, creating an anti-Trump, anti-TRUMP meme coin.
As the LAPTOP website states, the LAPTOP meme coin puts the narrative back in Hunter Biden's hands.
Airdrop to TRUMP Holders
According to the official website, LAPTOP has a total supply of 1 billion tokens. Project founders, including Hunter Biden, will receive 30% of the total LAPTOP supply, and these tokens cannot be sold for six months after launch, with the remaining portion released in batches over two years. On the first day of TGE, 350 million tokens will enter circulation, of which 200 million are for airdrops, 100 million are for adding liquidity, and 50 million tokens belonging to the foundation will also fully enter circulation.

LAPTOP will also tie 30% of its token supply to the outcomes of 30 prediction market contract events. Each event is assigned a different percentage of tokens and judged independently. If the outcome is "YES," the tokens will be burned and permanently removed from the supply; if the outcome is "NO," the tokens will be donated to charity.
Of these 30 prediction market contracts, 12 are political predictions, mainly related to anti-Trump themes, such as whether Trump will be impeached and whether Democrats will win majorities in the Senate and House. Six are related to cryptocurrency, such as whether the Clarity Act will pass and whether ZEC can reach $1,500 by 2027. Another seven are related to LAPTOP's achievements, such as whether LAPTOP's market cap will exceed TRUMP's.
In addition, regarding airdrop eligibility, the LAPTOP website explains that subscribers to Hunter Biden's Substack or Channel 5 have 30 days to claim the airdrop, and unclaimed tokens will be burned. At the same time, LAPTOP will reserve a portion of the airdrop tokens, which account for 20% of the total supply, for an airdrop to TRUMP investors to compensate them for losses suffered in the TRUMP project. The specific share has not been announced yet, but rumors online say it will be given to
Will This Mark the End of the Current Meme Rally?
The above is all the important information about the LAPTOP meme coin as of press time. Whether to jump in on Sept. 9 is a decision everyone will have to make for themselves.
But based on past experience, a token with such high heat will inevitably drain on-chain liquidity. After the news broke on the evening of Sept. 7, mainstream meme coins in the Robinhood ecosystem, such as PONS, AI, and CASHCAT, saw a brief broad decline.
Looking back at the previous major meme cycle, the market's general consensus afterward was that Trump's launch of the TRUMP token marked the turning point where on-chain liquidity went from boom to bust. After Argentina's president launched the LIBRA token, liquidity was completely drained, and meme coins entered a bear market. Although Hunter Biden himself does not have much political influence, under the halo of former President Joe Biden, his appeal to meme coin players remains very high.
Whether LAPTOP becomes the TRUMP of this cycle under the banner of "anti-TRUMP," or a LIBRA that goes to zero upon launch, we will find out on Sept. 9.
