Dow Jones Climbs as Trump-Xi Call Underway with Tariffs, TikTok Deal at Stake

Markets surge as world's most watched call unfolds—billions at stake in high-stakes negotiation.

Tariffs Take Center Stage

The fate of trillions in trade flows hinges on this conversation—investors betting heavily on de-escalation despite previous breakdowns. Supply chains tense up while algorithms react to every leaked detail.

TikTok's Billion-Dollar Gambit

ByteDance's crown jewel becomes bargaining chip in geopolitical poker game. American tech giants circle like sharks—smelling blood in the water if forced divestment gains momentum.

Wall Street's Selective Amnesia

Traders cheer any hint of progress while ignoring underlying tensions—because nothing boosts portfolios like temporary truces between economic superpowers. Because who needs long-term stability when you can chase quarterly returns?

This call won't solve everything—but markets will take whatever superficial wins they can get.

President Trump is currently engaged in a high-stakes phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, with a TikTok deal, tariff negotiations, Nvidia (NVDA) chip shipments, and Russian oil likely on the agenda. The two leaders are also set to talk about an in-person meeting in China.

“My relationship with China is very good,” TRUMP said in an interview with Fox News on Thursday. “And it sounds like they have approved TikTok.”

TikTok Framework Deal, Tariff Extension in Store

Earlier this week, negotiators from both sides met in Madrid and agreed to a framework deal for TikTok, pending final approval from Trump and Xi. Afterward, Trump teased another tariff extension for China.

“We may do an extension with China, but it’s an extension based on the same terms that we have right now, which are pretty good terms,” Trump said. The current deadline falls on November 10.
