Quit or Fired?

According to a report on Bloomberg, Omead Afshar, described as one of chief executive Elon Musk’s closest and most powerful confidants, has left the business.

The news reportedly has been circulating internally among Tesla employees in recent days. These Bloomberg sources noted that Afshar’s name no longer appears in the company’s internal directory.

One report in Forbes suggested that Afshar had been fired by Musk, although this has not been confirmed by either party.

Afshar, who worked in the CEO’s office, was promoted last year to oversee sales and manufacturing operations in North America and Europe.

These markets have been particularly challenging for Tesla this year with sales declining due to increased competition particularly from China, apathy over Tesla’s designs and a backlash against EVs.

Troubled Tesla

Existing and potential Tesla customers have also been disturbed by Musk’s close relationship with and involvement in President Donald Trump’s administration, as well as evidence of erratic behaviour and support for right wing politicians in Europe.

There have also been concerns about Musk taking his eye off the Tesla ball and being more interested in some of his other projects such as satellite company Starlink.

As a result its stock has dropped [specific number] percent over the last 12 months.

However, Musk has now left his Washington post, and committed to spending more time trying to right the Tesla ship. This includes a shift in the company’s focus to artificial intelligence, robots, and autonomous vehicles.

Tesla recently launched a small number of its long-promised robotaxis in Austin as part of this strategic shift.
