Sensex, Nifty inch up; L&T and NTPC lead the rally

Indian markets creep forward on heavyweight momentum—but don’t break out the champagne yet.

Top gainers & losers today

Among the Sensex firms, L&T, NTPC lead the gainers with 2-5 per cent increase following Q1 results. Tata Consumer Products, Sun Pharma and Grasim also ROSE close to 2 per cent.

On the flip side, Tata Motors depreciated over 3 per cent. Auto major Hero Motocorp declined nearly 2 per cent. Shriram Finance, HUL and IndusInd Bank dropped over 1 per cent.

Nearly 1,555 stocks advanced and 1,204 declined of all the 2,843 stocks that were traded on the National Stock Exchange.

Bosch, Foseco, HDFC AMC, ABDL and GE Vernova T&D India featured among the 75 stocks that hit a 52-week high. About 25 stocks traded at a 52-week low.

Cosmo First, JNK India and 65 other stocks hit the upper circuit, and Zen Tech and Electrotherm (India) and 29 others traded at its lower circuit.

Midcap & smallcap movers

Under the midcap basket, APL Apollo, Bank of India, Page Industries, Policy Bazaar and Premier Energies rose 2-3 per cent, while Sona BLW, Bharat Forge, Vodafone Idea and Indian Bank depreciated 2-3 per cent.

Godfrey Phillips, IGIL, Amber, GRSE and Lal Path Labs rose 3-6 per cent among the smallcap segment. Zen Tech, Five-Star, Reliance Power, Laurus Labs and PPL Pharma dragged 3-5 per cent.

On the BSE, The New India Assurance, Refex, Greaves Cotton, Jubilant Pharma and DCB Bank zoomed 6-11 per cent. Birla Corporation and Paradeep fell close to 5 per cent.

Shares of Tata Steel, Hyundai Motor, IndiGo, Power Grid and more will be in focus today due to Q1 results. Follow live updates
