IG Group Secures FCA Crypto License - UK Trading Giant Enters Digital Assets

London's financial landscape just got another crypto contender as IG Group locks down FCA regulatory approval.
The Regulatory Green Light
FCA authorization opens doors for institutional-grade crypto offerings from one of Britain's largest trading platforms. IG Group joins the select club of FCA-approved crypto firms, signaling mainstream acceptance continues marching forward.
Institutional Momentum Builds
Another traditional finance heavyweight embraces digital assets - because apparently watching from the sidelines while competitors eat your lunch gets old fast. The FCA stamp transforms cautious curiosity into concrete capability.
Regulatory hurdles becoming stepping stones? Now that's a plot twist even the most cynical finance veterans didn't see coming.
IG customers can trade Bitcoin, Ethereum
The regulatory milestone is part of IG’s push to expand its cryptocurrency offering, following the company’s rollout of a crypto trading service in June. IG unveiled this feature by partnering with Uphold, an FCA-registered crypto exchange and trading platform.
By partnering with Uphold Europe, IG was able to allow its customers to buy, sell and hold cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) directly through their IG app. The platform also offered web trading with customers getting 24/7 access to more than 35 cryptocurrencies.
The FCA’s approval will now allow IG to offer digital-asset trading directly on its platform. When live, the service will support crypto transfers and other features as IG expands its foray into the sector.
“This marks a significant step forward for IG as we continue to broaden our offering for UK investors,” said Michael Healy, managing director at IG. “The FCA licence not only enables us to provide a wider range of crypto services, but it also gives our customers greater flexibility and control. We’re excited to bring more than five decades of market experience to help shape the future of the UK’s rapidly growing crypto sector,” he added.
IG now joins a roster of platforms offering both crypto and traditional assets—such as stocks, indices, exchange-traded funds, and forex, via a single interface. Industry platforms offering crypto access to U.K. customers include Gemini, Bitstamp, eToro, and Revolut.
According to IG, existing crypto customers do not need to take any action following the license approval, as accounts will automatically migrate to the IG app.
