Wall Street’s dinosaur-era systems are finally facing extinction—and a top regulator just loaded the bullets. SEC Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw declared asset tokenization could ’rewire the entire financial infrastructure’ during a fiery fintech conference.

Blockchain’s atomic advantage? Cutting settlement times from days to seconds while slashing middlemen like a DeFi protocol on a rampage. ’We’re talking trillions in trapped liquidity suddenly going frictionless,’ Crenshaw noted—before hastily adding the obligatory ’but risks remain’ disclaimer.

The real kicker? This isn’t some crypto bro pipe dream anymore. BlackRock’s tokenized fund and Singapore’s Project Guardian prove the suits are finally playing catch-up. Though let’s be real—they’ll probably tokenize T-bills first because even innovation bows to risk-averse institutional mindsets.

One thing’s certain: when a regulator admits disruption is inevitable, the smart money starts repositioning. The only question is whether traditional finance will lead the charge—or get dragged kicking and screaming into the on-chain future.

🇺🇸SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce says tokenization is a technology that could significantly transform financial markets.

The tokenization roundtable was announced back in March and will be held at the SEC’s headquarters in Washington, DC. The SEC announced the launch of the crypto task force back in January, shortly after Trump’s inauguration. The task force is tasked with developing a comprehensive and clear regulatory framework for crypto assets. The group has been busy in its first few months of service, working to create a more friendly environment for the digital asset industry. The SEC itself has done the same, dropping several high-profile crypto cases and investigations in the last few months.

SEC Commissioner Paul Atkins and his commissioners, as well as the crypto task force chair Richard B. Gabbert, will take part in the panel. Representatives from several top banking institutions, including Fidelity, BlackRock, and Franklin Templeton, will also speak at the roundtable.

Those interested in viewing the SEC’s tokenization roundtable can watch it online. For online attendance, registration is not necessary; a LINK to watch the event will be available on May 12 on www.sec.gov.
