Trump Affirms Success of Tariffs, Notes Global Willingness to Engage in Trade Talks

Former President Donald Trump has reiterated his confidence in the effectiveness of tariffs, stating that the current trade policies are yielding positive results. He emphasized that nations worldwide are showing a strong inclination to negotiate, reflecting the strategic leverage these measures provide. This development underscores the ongoing shifts in global trade dynamics as countries adapt to evolving economic frameworks.

Tariffs Cause Unrest in US Economy

While the tariffs have been paused as new talks begin with several countries, the US economy remains in a state of uncertainty. Several economic experts suggested that a recession would be the outcome of tariffs resuming, however, Trump has doubled down that the tariffs are going well.

The US stock market has suffered greatly since March, with plenty of big-tech and US companies losing value at a frenzy. Many of these companies rely heavily on imports of resources and tools from outside the US, thus, the tariffs created plenty of negative buzz.

As a result, companies large and small are turning to special U.S. Customs-approved sites to avoid, at least temporarily, the payment of new tariffs implemented by Trump. Furthermore, companies like Apple and Honda are quickly developing plans to avert the tariffs through moving production or mass-importing resources before the tariffs resume. There is a 90-day pause in place for most countries before new tariffs hit, though tariffs for Chinese goods are now as high as 145%.

Outside of Tariffs, President Trump has also recently called on Fed Chair Jerome Powell to lower interest rates. Indeed, the commander in chief took to his Truth Social platform to levy a slew of criticisms and concerns toward the bank head while calling him a “major loser.”
