Ethereum News: Pectra Upgrade -New Hoodi Testnet Timeline

In recent Ethereum news, one of the key challenges of the Ethereum ecosystem is the issues that Sepolia and Holesky testnets have faced.
These issues prevented the Pectra upgrade from launching on the testing networks. This has led to the introduction of a new Hoodi testnet.
Notably, an X post revealed that Ethereum developers will have their regular All CORE Developers Consensus (ACDC) meeting on March 20, 2025, to review key updates on the network’s status.
Ethereum News: Latest Updates from Developers
The forthcoming meeting will discuss the Hoodi testnet launch, PeerDAS, and blob scaling upgrades.
The core developers will also discuss the timeline of the Pectra mainnet upgrade. An X post disclosed that a major focus would be on Ethereum’s new testnet, Hoodi, which is set to undergo the Pectra fork on March 26, 2025.
The testnet is expected to provide a stable environment for validator-related testing. Developers also discussed whether the history expiry feature will depend on Pectra’s timing.
If the Pectra upgrade on the mainnet happens after May 1, 2025, there could be adjustments to Ethereum’s “drop day” timeline.

Additionally, developers reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the existing Holešky testnet until September 2025.
Notably, Node operators are encouraged to continue running their validators.
However, those who wish to move their resources to Hoodi can transfer their validators to EthPandaOps.
Meanwhile, before informing the public about the launch of Hoodi, Ethereum developers had introduced other testnets like Sepolia and Holesky.
However, both faced configuration issues that affected their performance. This informs the reasons for the Hoodi testnet before the mainnet launch.
Hoodi Testnet and Pectra Upgrade Timeline
The Hoodi testnet is expected to play an important role in Ethereum development.
The report shows that the testnet will host 1 million validators and be the primary location for staking provider testing.
In addition, Ethereum developers intend to keep Hoodi as stable as possible to provide a sustainable and reliable staging environment.
Still, with the Pectra fork scheduled for March 26, 2025, developers anticipate using Hoodi to assess the upgrade’s performance.
This will help them determine the exact timing for its mainnet deployment.
While no official mainnet date has been set, developers hinted at a potential upgrade within the second quarter 2025.
Another important update from the ACDC meeting was the discussion on Fusaka, which includes improvements to PeerDAS and blob scaling.
Developers are also considering a proposal, EIP-7688, which introduces stable data structures for consensus, helping maintain consistency across network forks.
Broader Ethereum Market Outlook
Furthermore, Ethereum network upgrades come when competition in the blockchain space increases.
The Pectra upgrade and improvements in data availability and validator efficiency could strengthen Ethereum’s position as a leading smart contract platform.
Similarly, Ethereum news reports on price have seen it fluctuate ahead of the upgrade. Historically, major upgrades have led to price surges, but volatility remains.
If Pectra is successful, it could boost investor confidence and staking participation.
However, many expert maintain that with the current volatility, any significant delays or technical challenges might trigger short-term sell-offs.
This might bring about more price corrections to the token. As of this publication, market data shows that ETH price is trading at $1,912.63, with a 1.37% decline in the past 24 hours.
