Banco da Amazônia (BAZA3) is leveraging COP30 as a platform to showcase its sustainable finance initiatives, diversify funding sources, and expand its credit portfolio. With a focus on green financing and infrastructure, the bank aims to capitalize on the Amazon region's economic growth while maintaining strict socio-environmental standards. Key highlights include a 93.3% surge in commercial credit, partnerships with multilateral agencies, and plans for a digital bank launch in 2026.

How Is Banco da Amazônia Using COP30 to Boost Its Profile?

Banco da Amazônia (BAZA3) is turning COP30 into a strategic showcase for its sustainable finance projects. The bank is in advanced talks to secure $100 million from the World Bank, adding to the $100 million already raised from the French Development Agency. "COP30 has spotlighted the Amazon’s potential—from cocoa and coffee to agribusiness. Our challenge is converting investor interest into viable projects," says CEO Luiz Lessa. The bank is also reducing reliance on regional funds like FNO, which often deplete by mid-year.

What’s Driving the Bank’s Record Credit Growth?

The bank’s "Transformation Program" fueled a 93.3% jump in commercial credit, pushing its total portfolio to R$62.8 billion in H1 2025. Notably, R$8.3 billion (up 37.4%) went to low-IDH municipalities, while R$5.6 billion funded green projects at reduced rates. Revenue hit R$4.5 billion (+19% YoY), and client numbers grew 9% to 1.2 million. "We’re financing everything from family farms to soy processing plants—50% of Brazil’s corn now exports through northern ports," Lessa notes.

Can the Bank Balance Growth and Sustainability?

While supporting agribusiness and Vale’s Northern System expansion, the bank insists on rigorous socio-environmental criteria. It co-financed key energy infrastructure, like the Parintins-Manaus power link, and is finalizing the Manaus-Boa Vista line. "Energy access transforms small producers—an açaí farmer needs power for storage," Lessa explains. Upcoming products include a sustainability-linked credit card with carbon-offset rewards.

What’s Next for Banco da Amazônia?

A digital bank launch is slated for 2026, but Lessa stresses differentiation: "We won’t just mimic Itaú. Our products must reflect Amazonian roots." The bank targets R$200 million in new revenue and 350,000 additional clients by year-end, building on its 60% share of regional development financing.
