Abu Dhabi Pioneers AED Stablecoin Payments for Taxis – Crypto Goes Mainstream
Abu Dhabi just flipped the script on everyday crypto adoption—now you can hail a cab and pay with dirham-pegged stablecoins. No more fumbling with cash or card skimmers while the meter’s running.
Why This Matters
The UAE’s capital isn’t just dipping toes in blockchain—it’s diving headfirst. Taxis are the Trojan horse for mass crypto utility, proving digital assets can handle real-world speed and scale.
The Fine Print
Drivers won’t be paid in volatile crypto, of course. The AED stablecoin mirrors the local fiat 1:1—because even blockchain evangelists know taxi unions won’t tolerate paycheck roulette.
Watch Dubai’s luxury crypto projects squirm—this is how you actually normalize blockchain: one backseat fares at a time.
AE Coin accepted by Air Arabia
UAE based Air Arabia airline also started accepting the AED stablecoin, AE Coin, for payments such as flight booking. The airline is the first in MENA to offer a stablecoin based payment option. Users can book their flights using the AEC Wallet application developed by MBank.
AE Coin was the first AED stablecoin to be licensed in the UAE.
