I'm wondering if MetaMask has any limitations on the type of cryptocurrencies it supports. Specifically, can I use MetaMask to store and manage all kinds of crypto assets, or does it only accept certain ones? I'd like to know the scope of its compatibility before I decide to use it.
In addition to ETH, MetaMask also supports any ETH-based tokens. These tokens are built on top of the Ethereum blockchain and follow certain technical standards to ensure compatibility with the wallet.

One of the most common types of ETH-based tokens is ERC-20. This standard defines a common list of rules for tokens, which allows them to be easily integrated with Ethereum wallets and exchanges. Many popular tokens, such as Tether (USDT) and Compound (COMP), follow the ERC-20 standard.

MetaMask also supports ERC-721 tokens, which are often used for non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Unlike ERC-20 tokens, which are interchangeable, ERC-721 tokens are unique and can represent items such as digital artwork, collectibles, and even real-world assets.

Another type of ETH-based token supported by MetaMask is ERC-1155. This standard allows for the creation of both fungible and non-fungible tokens within the same smart contract. This makes it a versatile option for developers who want to create a variety of token types on the Ethereum blockchain.
