Is Celo a fork of Ethereum?

Celo blockchain shares a common ancestry with Ethereum, maintaining full EVM compatibility for smart contracts. However, it differs in several key aspects, such as using a Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) consensus mechanism instead of Proof of Work, and having distinct block formats, transaction formats, client synchronization protocols, and gas payment and pricing mechanisms.
