Will AGI ever exist?

I'm wondering if Artificial General Intelligence, or AGI, will ever become a reality. This type of intelligence would be capable of understanding and performing any intellectual task that a human being can, and I'm curious if it's just a matter of time until we achieve it, or if there are fundamental limitations that will prevent us from reaching this point.
