Which is better, index match or xlookup?

I'm trying to decide between using index match and xlookup in Excel. I've heard that both functions are useful for looking up and retrieving data, but I'm not sure which one is more efficient or suitable for my needs. Can someone help me understand the differences and recommend the better option?
