Is there a wrong way to play D&D?

So, I've been hearing a lot of people talk about how to play Dungeons & Dragons, and some have expressed concerns that there might be a "wrong" way to do it. But honestly, I'm a bit confused. Is there really a wrong way to enjoy this beloved game? Can we not all just have fun and create our own unique experiences, regardless of how we play? Or are there some fundamental rules that, if broken, will ruin the game for everyone involved? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, as someone who's experienced in the world of tabletop RPGs.
