Do homeless cats get sad?

As a financial professional with an understanding of both economics and the human condition, I have to wonder if the same emotions that humans experience, such as sadness, also apply to homeless cats. Is it possible that these felines, lacking a stable home and consistent care, could be susceptible to feelings of loneliness or despair?
