Do you talk during Reiki?

Excuse me, but I'm curious about something regarding Reiki sessions. I've heard that during these sessions, the practitioner and client often engage in a peaceful, meditative state. My question is, do people typically talk during a Reiki session? I understand that the goal is to promote relaxation and healing, so I'm wondering if verbal communication is discouraged or if there's a specific protocol for when or if it's appropriate to speak.
