Can you get in trouble for searching things on the Internet?

I'm curious, could one potentially find themselves in hot water for merely conducting searches on the internet? It's a vast and unregulated space, filled with all sorts of information, both legitimate and potentially illegal. Is there a line that shouldn't be crossed, or is the act of searching itself inherently harmless? And if so, what are the potential consequences one might face for crossing that line?
