Is BIM mandatory in USA?

I'm curious, is BIM, or Building Information Modeling, mandatory in the United States? I've heard it's becoming increasingly popular in the construction industry, but I'm not sure if it's a legal requirement or just a best practice. If it's not mandatory, what are the benefits of adopting BIM that might make it worth considering for a project? And if it is mandatory, what are the specific regulations or guidelines that govern its use in the US?
