Can I buy domain directly from Icann?

Excuse me, I was wondering if I could purchase a domain name directly from ICANN? I've heard that they're the governing body for domain names, so I figured it might be possible to cut out the middleman and buy straight from the source. However, I'm not entirely sure how the process works, or if it's even possible. Could you clarify whether or not it's feasible to buy a domain directly from ICANN, and if so, what the steps would be to do so?
