Should you have toys in cot?

Should we really be placing toys in cots for infants and young children? On one hand, toys can provide entertainment and stimulation for young minds, helping to develop cognitive skills and imagination. However, on the other hand, are there potential safety hazards that come with having toys in a cot? Could they pose a suffocation risk or be a choking hazard?
