Why are eggs so expensive now?

Hello there, I'm curious to know, why exactly are eggs so expensive at the moment? Is it due to a shortage in supply, perhaps because of some sort of farming crisis or weather-related issue? Or could it be that there's been a surge in demand, with people cooking more at home during the pandemic? And what about inflation, is that playing a role in the price hikes we're seeing?
