Are Akitas high maintenance dogs?

I'm curious to know, are Akitas known to be high maintenance dogs? I've heard they can be quite strong-willed and require a lot of attention and training. Is this true, or are they manageable pets for those who are willing to put in the effort? Additionally, do they tend to have any specific health issues that owners should be aware of? I'm considering adding an Akita to my family, but I want to make sure I'm fully prepared for the responsibility.
