Can an average person climb Everest?

Can the ordinary individual, without extensive mountaineering experience or specialized training, realistically aspire to scale the world's tallest peak, Mount Everest? Does the daunting altitude, treacherous terrain, and extreme weather conditions pose insurmountable challenges for the average adventurer?
