Is evmos on Cosmos?

Excuse me, could you please clarify for me if the Evmos network is actually built on the Cosmos blockchain ecosystem? I've been hearing about its interoperability and compatibility with Ethereum-based projects, but I'm unsure if that means it's directly integrated with the Cosmos network or if it operates in a different capacity. Could you shed some light on the relationship between Evmos and Cosmos, and how they might be interconnected, if at all?
