Is New Jersey close to Oklahoma?

Excuse me, could you please clarify something for me? I was reading an article and it mentioned New Jersey and Oklahoma in the same context, which made me wonder: are these two states actually located close to each other? From what I understand, they seem to be on opposite sides of the United States, with New Jersey being in the northeast and Oklahoma in the southeast. Am I mistaken in assuming that they are not geographically proximate? Could you help me understand the geographical relationship between these two states?
