Are Akita Inu independent?

I'm curious to know if Akita Inu dogs are truly independent in nature. As someone who is considering adopting a dog, I've heard that this breed can be quite aloof and may not always seek out human interaction. Is this accurate? Are Akita Inus naturally independent, or do they just require a specific type of owner who understands their needs and temperament? I'd appreciate any insight you can provide on this matter.
