Can I wash TOMS in washing machine?

I understand the convenience of using a washing machine to clean your TOMS shoes, but I have to ask, is it truly the best method? Won't the machine's agitation damage the materials or the stitching? Wouldn't it be wiser to follow the manufacturer's recommendations and hand wash or use a shoe cleaner specifically designed for the material? After all, preserving the quality and longevity of your shoes is crucial.
