How long does buried loot last in Sea of Thieves?

I'm curious, for those avid Sea of Thieves players out there, just how long can you expect that treasure you've buried to remain untouched in the depths of the ocean? Is there a set duration before it disappears, or does it depend on factors like location or server stability? It would be great to know how long we have to retrieve our hard-earned loot before it's lost to the sands of time.
