Does anyone actually eat fortune cookies?

I've always been curious about something - do people actually enjoy eating fortune cookies, or are they more of a novelty item that gets left untouched? It seems like every time I go to a Chinese restaurant, I'm offered one with my dessert, but I've never really seen anyone take a bite out of them.
