Can TOMS be washed?

I'm curious, can TOMS shoes be washed? I've heard that they're made with durable materials, but I'm not sure if they can withstand the rigors of a washing machine. Do they have any special cleaning instructions that I should follow to ensure they stay in good condition? I'd hate to ruin a pair of my favorite shoes by washing them incorrectly.
