Can scallops go bad?

Hello there, I'm curious to know about the shelf life of scallops. Can scallops actually go bad? If so, what are the signs that they've gone bad? And how should they be stored to ensure they stay fresh for as long as possible? I'm asking because I've recently started incorporating seafood into my diet and want to make sure I'm handling it properly. Thanks in advance for your help!
