Are SPS corals hard to keep?

I'm curious to know, are SPS corals difficult to maintain in an aquarium environment? I've heard they require specific water parameters and intense lighting, but is it truly a challenge for even experienced aquarists to keep them healthy and thriving? Are there any particular tips or tricks that one should be aware of when attempting to care for SPS corals?
