Can I dry my backpack with a hair dryer?

Can someone please clarify for me if it's SAFE and effective to use a hair dryer to dry my backpack? I've heard mixed opinions about this and would like to know the pros and cons before making a decision. For example, will the heat from the hair dryer damage the material or any of the contents inside? Also, is there a better alternative method for drying a backpack? Thanks in advance for your help!
