Do books need air circulation?

I'm curious, does it really matter if books have proper air circulation? I mean, they're just made of paper and ink, right? But I've heard that lack of air Flow can cause mold or mildew to grow, especially in damp or humid environments. Is that true? And if so, how important is it to ensure that books have adequate air circulation to prevent damage and maintain their condition over time?
