Do cats know when one cat dies?

Could it be possible that cats, with their highly tuned senses and keen perception of their surroundings, might somehow be aware of the passing of one of their feline companions? Is there any scientific evidence to suggest that cats might exhibit behavioral changes or other signs indicating they sense the death of another cat? Could their sensitive noses pick up on subtle changes in scent, or their sharp ears detect changes in vocalizations or ambient sounds that might indicate a cat's demise? Is it just human perception that cats grieve for their fallen comrades, or is there more to it than meets the eye?
