Why is finding prime numbers difficult?

Why is the task of finding prime numbers such a daunting challenge? Could it be that the very nature of prime numbers, being numbers that can only be divided by 1 and themselves, inherently makes them harder to uncover? Or is it due to the sheer volume of numbers to sift through, with only a fraction of them being prime? Perhaps advancements in computing power and algorithms have not quite caught up to the complexity of the problem. Whatever the reason, it seems that the search for prime numbers remains a fascinating and elusive pursuit.
