Can you wear Reef shoes in the water?

I'm curious, can someone actually wear Reef shoes in the water? I've heard that they're designed for water activities, but I'm not sure if they're truly waterproof or if they'll hold up in the wet conditions. I'm planning a beach trip soon and I'm looking for a pair of shoes that can handle the sand, surf, and occasional dip in the ocean. Are Reef shoes a good choice, or should I be looking at something else? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this matter.
