Is a 2900 chess rating possible?

I'm curious, is it actually feasible for a chess player to achieve a rating of 2900? Considering the current highest ratings and the extreme level of skill required to even approach such a mark, does this seem like a realistic goal for any mortal player? And if so, what would be the key factors that would need to be in place for someone to even attempt such an ambitious endeavor?
