Do Internet providers give you a router?

Excuse me, I'm a bit confused about something. Could you please clarify for me if Internet providers typically include a router with their service? I've heard some people say that they do, while others claim they have to purchase one separately. I'm trying to set up my home network and want to make sure I have all the necessary equipment. So, do Internet providers typically provide a router, or is it something I need to acquire on my own?
